I Stopped Going Through His Phone. Here's What Actually Helped.

Checking his phone never once made me feel better. It just gave the anxiety a new place to live.

For a long time I thought the problem was that I didn't have enough information. If I could just see one more message, one more notification, I'd finally feel safe. Spoiler: I never did. There was always one more thing to check.

What changed wasn't him. It was me getting honest about what I actually needed, which was reassurance I was outsourcing to a screen at midnight.

Three things genuinely helped. First, I started naming the feeling out loud — "I feel anxious," not "he's doing something." Second, I gave myself a rule: no phone in bed, because nothing good has ever been decided at 1am. Third, I stopped treating my gut like an enemy. If something kept nagging at me in daylight, I let myself look into it calmly — once — instead of spiraling.

The goal was never to catch him. It was to stop feeling crazy. And weirdly, the less I snooped, the clearer my own head got.
