The 5-Minute Habit That Finally Quieted My Anxiety at Night

No app. No cost. Just one small thing I do before bed now — and it actually stuck.

I used to do this thing where I'd lie down "to sleep" and instead hand my brain a megaphone. Every worry, every unread text, every awkward thing I said in 2014 — all of it, at full volume.

What finally worked wasn't some elaborate routine. It was a brain-dump. Five minutes, paper notebook (not my phone), and I write down every single thing rattling around. Worries, to-dos, half-thoughts. I don't solve them. I just get them out of my head and onto the page so my brain stops holding them like it's afraid I'll forget.

Then I write one tiny line at the bottom: "Tomorrow-me can handle this." Because she can. And present-me, at 11pm, genuinely cannot.

It sounds almost too simple. But the difference between carrying it all in your head and seeing it sit harmlessly on a page is the difference between a racing mind and an actual night's sleep.
